Established in 2015 as part of the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music Community Ensembles Program, the Wollcon Symphony Orchestra carries forward a proud tradition of amateur symphonic music in the Illawarra region. Its roots trace back to the original Illawarra Symphony Orchestra of the 1930s, and later the long-running South Coast Orchestra.
The ensemble performs a rich and varied repertoire, ranging from classical masterworks by Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Shostakovich, Bizet, Borodin, Berlioz, and Mozart and more, to contemporary community orchestra favourites by Moncayo and Márquez. Rehearsals are Monday evenings at Wollcon. with new members accepted all year around (enquiries@wollcon.com.au / 02 42281122)
