PopUp Sing! Ode to Joy

This Make Music Day, Sydney Opera House and Sydney Philharmonia Choirs invite you to be part of the music-making with a virtual PopUp Sing! workshop broadcast live from the Joan Sutherland Theatre. In this special event, you will learn to sing the ‘Ode to Joy’ chorus from Beethoven’s famous Symphony No 9. The workshop will be led by world-renowned choral conductor, Brett Weymark, accompanied by Claire Howard Race on piano and four members of the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs. How will it work?

1. Download the music and listen to the audio tracks on the Sydney Opera House website. Familiarise yourself with the music, practice the lyrics and encourage your household to join you.
2. Get ready for the workshop on Make Music Day, Sunday 21st June at 4pm. Brett will lead you through a 45 minute masterclass where you will warm up your voice, learn about the piece and the language, before diving into the music. The workshop will finish with a performance of the work, accompanied by the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs singers and piano.
