8.30pm CLOSE. The bus service stops at 7m, so a short stroll to the ferry will be needed. The return passenger ferry leaves at 8.45pm, 9.15pm, 9.45pm and 10.15pm (last ferry).
EVENT NOTES
Join us in an unplugged, all acoustic jam session in the morning at Pioneer Park, located between the Curlew Cafe and the ferry terminal. All skill levels are welcome, just keep in mind that we need to be able to hear each other, even the quietest ukulele!
There will be two jams, the first one starts at 11am and the second at 2pm. For those really keen, you might want to play right through? That will depend on who attends. Audience is welcome but what we really want is for you to grab your instrument and to join us. This is a dynamic community event, so we don’t know who will turn up until it happens!
At 4pm, there will be some free guitar tuition then a short break before a small mini house concert in the evening. We recommend ordering a take-away pasta meal from the Curlew Cafe. You can take the Coochie Island bus to the house concert to eat your food there if you like. The bus costs $2 per trip or you walk a kilometre if you wish.
The phone number for the Curlew Cafe is 07 3207 7207 for meal orders. The phone call for the Coochie Bus is 0437 559 046 to order the bus ($2) cost.
The evening mini-concert is open to all, starting off with an open mic component. If you want to perform, please just let Jose know. We particularly welcome island musicians to take part. It’s pretty casual, so please expect an informal approach to all of this. This is a first time event for the island and next year we hope to increase participation levels to make it easy for all to take part.
Coochiemudlo means “red rock” in the original Goenpul language. Access to this small and beautiful island is by a regular ferry service from Victoria Point. This location is serviced by public transport and is only 32km from Brisbane. The passenger ferry costs about $5 for casual use and slightly less for a pass. Visitors are reminded to respect the local fauna and flora. Birdlife regularly visit public spaces and the island habitat is home to dugong, curlew, kingfisher and sea eagles. Balancing and managing human impact is an ongoing challenge. The island’s beauty is cherished, with many volunteers dedicated to its care and preservation. Please join with us, sharing these same values of respect.
