String Masterclass with Doric String Quartet

Musica Viva Australia and Sydney Conservatorium of Music offers you the opportunity to attend a free masterclass with acclaimed cellist, John Myerscough, of the Doric String Quartet. You are invited to witness him working with talented string students, workshopping techniques to perfect their craft in an ‘open lesson’ format.

Firmly established as one of the leading quartets of its generation, the Doric String Quartet receives enthusiastic responses from audiences and critics across the globe. Winner of the 2008 Osaka International Chamber Music Competition in Japan and 2nd prize at the Premio Paolo Borciani International String Quartet Competition in Italy, the Quartet now performs in leading concert halls throughout Europe including Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Vienna Konzerthaus, Berlin Konzerthaus, Frankfurt Alte Oper, Hamburg Laeiszhalle and De Singel, and is a regular visitor to the Wigmore Hall. The Quartet tours annually to the United States and made its Carnegie Hall debut in 2017.

Formed in 1998 the Doric String Quartet studied on the Paris-based ProQuartet Professional Training Program and later at the Music Academy in Basel, then being selected for representation by YCAT in 2006. In 2015 the Quartet was appointed as Teaching Quartet in Association at the Royal Academy of Music in London.

1pm – La Salle Catholic College: 2 girls singing, 1 in English 1 in Arabic, a violinist and a guitarist

Previous workshops have had participants singing Broadway hits, ABBA, The Beatles, and classical repertoire such as Beethoven’s Ode to Joy.

You are invited to Friday June 21 World Music Day at the Fox n Hounds

“The Fête de la Musique, also known as Music Day, Make Music Day or World Music Day, is an annual music celebration that takes place on 21 June. On Music Day the citizens of a city or country are allowed and urged to play music inside or outside in their neighborhoods or in public spaces and parks. Free concerts are also organized, where musicians play for fun and not for payment.”

Singing, big screen jamming open mic and generally making music on the afternoon and evening of Friday June 21. The afternoon session starts at 1.30 pm. The evening session starts at 6.00 pm.
