The Great Big Unscary Singing Lesson
June 21 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
The Great Big Unscary Singing Lesson is a workshop presented by Rose Wilson, and hosted by the Hastings Port Macquarie Library. Rose is a local choir director, singing teacher and muso. You can read more about her here- www.rosesong.com.au
This event is a one hour group workshop, where Rose will, in her adjective-laden language, give you tools to begin exploring, understand, and develop your own singing.
The workshop is an event to celebrate International Make Music Day. This day is a day of goodness, free music events, joy and invitation to all to make and enjoy being involved with making music, regardless of how much experience they might have had doing that in the past.
Singing is one of those things we tend to think you can just do or you can’t. And this is not true. Like almost everything, there are simple things you can understand and practice and develop which will improve your singing. The point of this workshop is to share some with you.
Singing in a group can be a scary prospect for some. To those people, Rose offers an extra warm invitation. Rose will hold this space knowing that it may well be a very big deal for some people to be there, and the feeling of safety and welcome is always maintained. Indeed, it is crucial, as no one can sing freely and joyfully when they feel uncomfortable (this is an actual physical fact which Rose will explain in the workshop).
We’ll talk, we’ll make noise, we’ll sing simple part songs together. As a bonus, you get to partake in the thrill of simply being very loud in a library.
“Shhhhh” says a librarian.
“Nooooooo” sing we all back in epic harmony (it’s OK, the library does know we are coming).
Friday the 21st of June, 5-6pm, Free, Port Macquarie library, Grant St.
