City Sounds (Folly – Outside Wintergarden)

By

City Sounds is Australia’s largest and longest-running free live music program. Every single week we turn ordinary urban spaces into music venues for artists to share their voices with the public. Every week expect to hear anything from jazz and funk to electro and indie ringing out from Queen Street Mall, Post Office Square, Reddacliff Place and other locations in the CBD. It’s like a boutique music festival that never ends – there’s always someone new to discover. Check out our Gig Guide page to see who is landing on our outdoor stages this week.

Make Music Day @ Sydney Olympic Park

By

Join us for a day at the Park celebrating the most universal of all art forms – music!

Make Music Day is a free celebration of music around the world on 21st June. Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, it is now held on the same day in more than 800 cities in 120 countries.

Completely different from a typical music festival, Make Music Day is open to anyone who wants to take part. Every kind of musician — young and old, amateur and professional, of every musical persuasion — pours onto streets, parks, squares and porches to share their music with friends, neighbours, and strangers. All of it is free and open to the public.

Jacaranda Square @ Sydney Olympic Park comes alive from 9am to 7pm with a diverse mix of musical talent – professional acts from western Sydney’s thriving contemporary music scene playing soul, R’n’B and Rap, and ‘open mic’ punters looking for their 5 minutes of fame.

Commuters won’t miss out either – our New Musical Express (in partnership with Sydney Trains) will treat patrons to great music from diverse cultures as they travel to and from the Park.

To register your interest, contact tony.nesbitt@sopa.nsw.gov.au or 9714 7110.

The Newsagency Presents…

By

The Newsagency is Sydney’s cosiest live music venue, situated a stone’s throw from Parramatta Road, in Annandale. We have been operating since July 2017 in our current format, and we are proud to be artist focused and independantly operated.

We are also very proud to present to you 3 amazing local musicians on #MakeMusicDay2018

Goldheist

Visually and sonically arresting, flower crowned crooner GOLDHEIST has been likened to Kate Bush, Florence & The Machine, and Ellie Goulding, bringing her songs and stories to stages across regional and metropolitan Australia.

Dion Condack

Dion’s music career began at the tender age of 5, when he became fascinated by the piano. Fast forward to 2018,  his debut acoustic album of originals coordinated with the Newtown Performing Arts school choir in a combined choral work, ‘Suddenly’, is ready to unleash on the world’s audience.

Alison Avron

Alison Avron is a singer, songwriter, pianist, and Creative Director of The Newsagency. She grew up in rural South Australia and amused herself by singing in community choirs and touring with opera companies. Slightly manic yet completely loveable, witty and nonchalant you’ll be hard pressed to find anyone like her on the planet.

After these 3 performances, we are opening up The Newsagency stage for all and sundry! Come down, sinf us a song, and MAKE MUSIC!

Glee Club at the Pub – Burnley Brewing

By

Many things go with beer; food, sports and friends name just a few. With that in mind Burnley Brewing has teamed up with Australian Vocal specialist Vicky Jacobs for their first Glee Club at the Pub to celebrate International Make Music Day 2018.

From 8:30pm the ultimate group karaoke session will take place in the shadow of the brew tanks accompanied by Burnley’s renowned hand rolled pastas, burgers, beer snacks and main meals. And while joining us for dinner beforehand is recommended (bookings essential), Glee Club at the Pub has only three rules; no solos; no show ponies; and enjoy as many drinks as you like!

At Glee Club at the Pub, this means bellowing pub classics from the 60s to today – anything from John Farnham to The Beatles to Beyonce! It doesn’t matter if you’ve never sung before or you’re a choir junkie, with all the harmonies and melodies led by Jacobs and her keyboard, this pop-up choir is sure to be a blast.

This is a free event. Book your table for dinner and drinks beforehand at burnleybrewing.com.au

“This is a CMVic coordinated event – see the full list of these here.”
